Our History Since 1926

Mangorei School has a rich history that dates back nearly a century. The present school site was purchased in 1924, and on February 2, 1926, the newly established Mangorei Consolidated School officially opened its doors with an initial roll of 47 pupils. The school’s creation was part of an effort to consolidate several smaller schools in the surrounding area, providing students with better resources and facilities in a centralised location.

Over the years, Mangorei School continued to grow, particularly following the closure of Upper Mangorei School in 1938 and Korito School in 1939. These closures contributed to a steady increase in student numbers, and by the 1950s, the school roll had expanded to approximately 150 students.

Growth & Development

As the school community grew, so did the need for enhanced facilities and learning spaces. Significant property developments over the decades have shaped the school into the well-equipped institution it is today:

  • 1950 – A swimming pool was constructed, providing students with the opportunity to develop water safety and swimming skills on-site.

  • 1969 – The school grounds were expanded to accommodate growing student numbers and provide more space for outdoor activities.

  • 1974 – A new library and administration block was added, enhancing learning opportunities and improving school operations.

  • 1996 – The school hall was built, creating a central space for assemblies, performances, and community events.

Today, Mangorei School continues to honour its long-standing tradition of education while embracing modern advancements to ensure the best learning experience for its students. Our history is a testament to the dedication of the school community, past and present, in creating a supportive and enriching environment for generations of learners.
